Density calculation using a distance map

File Information

Description

A distance map is a powerful layer to measure for every pixel in the object the minimal distance to the objects border. Here we use a distance map to compute distances between nuclei and estimate from there on the nuclei density.

After nuclei segmentation a distance map is calculated for the background area. This distance map allows us to measure the average distance of each nucleus to its neighbors. The a slightly averaged inverse of the nuclei-nuclei-distances is used to estimate and visualize the density.
